Random Acts of Kindness Week at Slocum

Slocum Elementary School celebrated Random Acts of Kindness Week and P.S. I Love You Day with activities focused on kindness, communication and connection across grade levels.
Some of the activities during Random Acts of Kindness Week and P.S. I Love You Day included a fifth-grade scavenger hunt, where students worked with assigned partners to travel throughout the building and answer questions about bullying, kindness and communication.
Each class also completed an act of kindness for another class to create a “kindness chain reaction” across the school. Some classes partnered with their assigned buddies to complete activities together, while others created crafts to deliver to another classroom.
The Slocum Spirit Club, with participation from students across the school, also spread kindness beyond the building by decorating Starbucks coffee sleeves with uplifting messages. The sleeves were available at the Islandia Starbucks to help brighten customers’ days.
In addition, fifth graders in Spirit Club read “Enemy Pie” by Derek Munson to kindergarten, first and second grade classes. They then helped younger students create spin-wheel pies featuring examples of kind acts that can be practiced every day.
