Slocum first graders celebrate America’s 250th with Patriot Day Showcase

Slocum’s first graders celebrated America's 250th birthday with an exciting Patriot Day Showcase. Over the past several weeks, students researched important American symbols and worked collaboratively to create informative tri-fold display boards.
The displays featured the American flag, the Statue of Liberty, the Great Seal, The Star-Spangled Banner, the Liberty Bell and the bald eagle. Students confidently shared fascinating facts about each symbol and demonstrated an impressive understanding of their significance in our nation's history.
To conclude the celebration, classes from across the school participated in a gallery walk, giving the first graders the opportunity to showcase their knowledge. “We could not have been more proud of their enthusiasm, creativity and dedication,” said teacher Ms. McGuinness. “They truly impressed everyone with their presentations and proved that even our youngest learners can accomplish remarkable things!”
